Praise God, brothers and sisters. I'd like to start this service off with uh Psalms. Psalm 34 verse 1-3. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord. The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together. And praise is constant. You know, it's not just for Sunday, but it's for all times. Um and uh God, he brings joy even in affliction and pain. And um worship, it's also communal. You know, it's not um it's not just alone, but it's also together. And with that being said, let's stand up and pray for the service. Lord God, we thank you for this beautiful morning you've given us, Lord. And we pray and we ask, Lord, bless the service, Lord. Fill us place the Holy Spirit, God. Bless the sermons. Bless the singing, God. In Jesus name we pray. Help us in this, Lord. Guide us and lead us, Lord, in the power of the Holy Spirit, God. And help us to learn from whatever is being spoken today, Lord, through the sermons, Lord. Help us to leave not empty-handed, Lord, but with new knowledge. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. And al together we're going to be singing the song by the name of Come Thou Fountain. [Music] Come thou f of every blessing to my heart to sing thy grace. Streams of mercy never ceasing. Call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some sung by flinging tongues above. Praise the mountain fixed upon it. Mount of God's unchanging love. Here I raise my heaven. Hither by thy help I come. And I hope by thy good pleasure safely to arrive at home. Jesus saw me when a strangeanger wandering from the fold of God he to rescue me from danger interpose his precious blood. All to grace how great a Daily I'm constrained to be. Let thy goodness like a feather by my wondering heart to thee. Prone to wonder Lord I feel it. prone to leave the God I love. Here's my heart, oh take and seal it. Seal it for thy courts above. Come thou f of every blessing. Tune my heart to sing thy grace. Streams of mercy never ceasing call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some [Music] by flaming tongues above praise the mountain high fixed upon it. Mount of God's unchanging love. [Music] I worship you almighty God. There is none like you. I worship you, oh prince of peace. [Music] That is what I long to do. I give you praise for you are my rightousness. I worship you almighty God. There is none like you. We worship you almighty God. There is none like you. I worship you. Oh prince of peace. That is what I long to do. I give you praise for you are my rightousness. [Music] I worship you almighty God. There is none like you. Praise God. Praise the Lord, brothers and sisters, for this morning that we can all come here together today and listen to his word and worship him. And I'm going to read a Bible verse in Psalm 94 U from verse 18 to 19. And it says here, "When I thought my foot slips, your steadfast love, oh Lord, help me up. When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul." Praise God. And now we'll have Pastor Henry uh saying a word for us and continuing his series in Revelation. God bless. Good morning everyone. It's a beautiful day. It's a beautiful day. Yes. Um, I just came came back from camping and some members asked me what did you heard this time? Well, I guess nothing but still sometimes I have a problem with back and seems like I had a problem with back but as soon as I came to the church it's it's gone. Praise God for that. Praise God. So, um, let's see. We want to make sure that that we have the PowerPoint on. Okay, we got it. Yeah. So today we continuing our studies in the book of revelation and we are going into the epistol of Jesus Christ to the seven churches. Last time we've talked about the church of sardis. It's the church that God had or Jesus Christ had no compliment to no approval at all. And the main theme for that church was to wake up. And we've talked about that last time. And I do want to also remind everyone to wake up. Of course, it is maybe for some of us mean physically, but more important spiritually. So we got to wake up. We living in a time and days where the I would say either gospel or preaching of many churches tend to tickles our ears and tell us well everything is going fine. You can live the way you want and you'll be okay. But Jesus Christ when he was talking to the church of Sergis, he were telling to that church, not everything is okay. And I advise that you wake up and if you will not, then a trouble is awaiting you. Well, today we're going to talk about the epistol to the Philadelphia. And again I want to remind all of us this is the epistle of Jesus Christ himself. Some of us may be like the epistol of James or epistol of Peter or epistle of Paul but this is the epistol of Jesus Christ to the churches. And today we're going to read the epistle of Jesus Christ to the church of Philadelphia. Philadelphia. You know, I'll tell you right away, this is one of my favorite church. Maybe somehow I can relate to this church. And when I'm telling you this is my favorite church, it's not just since the time I really start teaching about the epistols to the seven churches, but since I was a teenager and when I read the Bible, somehow I was able to relate to this church. Well, maybe I'm not or we're not as perfect as this church, but you will see there's some may a parallel between smaller churches and the church in Philadelphia. Again, here is the map. I do want to mention that those churches were very close by together. they were in uh Asia Minor which is modern day uh nowadays Turkey. The reason Jesus Christ chooses only those seven churches even though there was much bigger churches like uh church in Rome or in Corinth. It's because those seven churches, they represent the character and the spirit of all churches on earth through the history time. You can read and you can relate to one of those churches that could be with positive things or with negative things. And when you see something negative, you can actually apply it to yourself and you can read the advice that Jesus Christ given to this church and you just take this advice as it was given directly to you. That's very important because when we read that epistol to those seven churches, we're almost like looking into the mirror and we try to relate some of those things to ourself like maybe to the last church that we went through the sardis and it says wake up. If many of us felt like we are getting spiritually sleepy then it's a time to wake up and those who do not wake up then we can read what Jesus Christ telling to this church and we can apply to ourself again all those seven churches they're very close by each other and uh they're approximately 40 30 to 40 miles away from each other and Uh let's go ahead and dive in first into the scripture. Revelation 3:7. Let's all open up Revelation 3 verse 7. Brother Tim, what page is that in the Bible? It should be 1,776 1,776. It's right at the end of a Bible. So page 1,776 verse 7. And to the end to the angel of the church in Philadelphia, right? He who is holy, who is true, and who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says this, church in Philadelphia. Again, we going to the seven elements that is written to each one of those churches. And first element it's the name of the church. The church was in the city of Philadelphia. Well, very interesting name, Philadelphia. Yes, Phyllis. We know this is love. But I do want to mention in the Bible it's translated as a brotherly love. And when we translate a brotherly love, I mean what does it mean to our understanding nowadays? Brotherly love, what kind of love is this? We just translate this as a friendship. When it says in a Bible that you should love one another, many times it says love with agapia. Agapia mean it's a charitable love. It's a love that you do something good for each other and you may not have any feelings towards each other. You just do something that will be good for the other person. But then it says, Apostle Peter writing to us, you have a love between each other, agapy and fearless and brotherly love. He's saying even when you do something good to each other, I also want you to have when you're among the when you're in the same church, I want to make sure that you also have a friendship between each other. So the name of this city is Philadelphia. Delia means city but feel it's friendship. That's the love or friendship David had to Jonathan. So many people think well maybe it's the same love that like an aeros that uh maybe a man has towards the woman. No that's different in Greek we have four definitions of love. Yeah it's a uh aeros agape stoi and felis. So, but here it's a brotherly love and nowadays we just say it's a friendship. The reason this city was called Philadelphia because there was a king in Roman Empire and he had a really good friend that also became a king and he actually gave this city as a present to him and called nowadays we would say a friendship city. This is to show that we are good friends. And so this also was the key city mean that the city has an importance in this area. The reason it was important because it was bordering with three major counties and so it was like a gateway to the east. Why this is important? Because before this there was a church that became a missionary church. This actually city was always considered to be a missionary city. But it was missionary for the Greek language and culture. So Roman use Romans used the city to spread the Greek language and culture to the Asia. At that time we know the major language was actually Greek language. And so when Romans start con conquering many places, it used this city to be like a gateway to the Asia Minor to spread the Greek culture and Greek language. And nowadays in the Bible we read to be as a Hellenism. That was just a Greek culture and language that was spread throughout the world. And like I said, it found as a Greek colony in Asia to spread the Greek language and culture to the Asia or Asia Minor. Then second point we read right here it's a title of Jesus Christ. That's a second element. So first it's always written to the city that Jesus Christ write in this epistle. Then the second he will give a certain title to him. And when he gives a certain title to himself, he want to explain to the church what he's able to do among the church. Make sure they remember. Make sure they do not forget. And here he's saying who he who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David. What's the importance in that? He who is holy. Okay, we all understand that God is holy. But what should I take from this? Well, if we read in Isaiah chapter 6 verse one, and I'm just going to read in not all verses, but some of the um pieces that I need to portray my point. In the year of King Uzziah, Uzziah's death, I saw the Lord sitting on the throne and one called out to another and said, "Holy, holy, holy." Here is the Trinity. Yeah. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. The whole earth is full of his glory. So then what comes out from when Isaiah saw that the angels or archangels called God holy, holy, holy. Then the next thing then I said, "Woe is to me for I am ruined because I am man of unclean lips." So when Isaiah saw that angels called God holy, holy, holy, he understood the purity of God. how holy God is and how unclean Isaiah is. Isaiah at that time was already a prophet. If we as a people would s and Isaiah, we would say this is a holy man. But when Isaiah was before God's throne, he saw how unclean he was. But God did not destroy him. When as soon as Isaiah was able to see his condition, then God actually send the angel to cleanse his mouth, his tongue. Because when any time we come closer to God, we will able to recognize how holy, how pure he is and how unclean we are. And this is very important. And then when we recognize that we are imperfect, then we just cry out to God and say, "God, forgive me for that." And God forgives us. And that's how we become more holy like our father in heaven is because Jesus Christ himself said, "Be holy like your father in heaven." Because we are moving towards that. we going towards the uh holiness of God but we will not be able to see who we are and who he is until we come closer to God. And so that's why right here Jesus Christ want to remind this church that he is holy. It brings reverence and fear. Yes, it does. But it brings fear. Not just I'm like extremely afraid of God, but it brings that reverence towards God that I understand who he is. It's like a son that never want to hurt his father because he loves him so much. There is a reverence. So that's kind fear it brings to us when we come closer to God himself. If we have this reverence towards him, then he who is true. Okay, we know that God is true. But for some reason, Jesus Christ want to remind this church that he is true. What can we take from that? Well, let's read in John chapter 14 verse 5. Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father but through me." So Jesus Christ saying, "I am the truth. I am the way." What is that mean to us? We all know that he's the way. He's the truth. He's the way to salvation. To be very practical it's mean that there is many sources of information in this world. We can go on internet we can find whatever information we wanted. We can find the information how we can raise our kids. We can find information how what kind of relationship we have to have with other people. We can find the information how should we conduct in our business. There is lot of different type of psychology but the only true information that will la that will last forever is the information of the word of God. It's the psychology of the word of God that works for every generation through all times. So that's why Jesus Christ saying I am true. If you want to be always right, if you're going to follow my word, you will never stumble. Or if you do stumble, you will get up and go because you have the proper information. When we get information from this world, we'll actually testing. Okay, this time the psychology were saying that's how you should do it. you were doing it and then 10 years later they said well actually no there is a different way that's why Jesus Christ saying I am the way if you want to walk in a right way if you don't want to be an experiment of the worldly psychology you dive in into the word of God and he's the truth he's the right source of right information and he's the right way. Anytime you're going to apply Bible in your real practical life, you will be always on the right side. This is not time for testing and experiment. Our life is given once to us. And since the word of God is the true information, we should apply this word of God in our practical life and then we will always be on the right side. Then the third has the key of David. Okay, what does it mean? Key of David. We know David the King David. Well, I'm not going to read this, but also in Isaiah when it in chapter 22 verse 21 and 22, it explains that there is a people that taking the key of David and they would portray themselves as the people that should rule over other people and God saying that I will give the key of David. And right here there is description of the future Jesus Christ. Because Jesus Christ is not only king of kings. Jesus Christ is not only king in heaven. Jesus Christ is the king of people as well because he became the son of man. He became a person. So therefore like a perfect king was king David. We know that he was not perfect as well, but he's the closest resemblance of the perfect king and that Jesus Christ is his descendant and Jesus Christ taking those key of kingship and he's my king. But the only way he can become your king because you can say well Jesus Christ is my king but is he truly is? Well the king he rules. Does Jesus Christ rules in your heart? Who rules you? Maybe it's my ambitions. Maybe it's my ego. Maybe it's someone else. then Jesus Christ is not your king. But if Jesus Christ is your king, then he rules your life. And at this time, he can rule our life through the word of God. When we read something, we able to apply it. When we able to find out the truth, we follow this truth. We just not take this as information to know about things what Jesus Christ like it what he doesn't like it. We start applying in our life. As soon as we find out something oh the word of God saying this is not good I need to change this in my life. That's when we start applying this word in our practical life. And that's how Jesus Christ became becoming ruling our lives. And he becomes a king in your life. He's the Lord. Lord, it's a master. Yeah. Whatever he's saying, you're obeying. But again, when Jesus Christ rules, he only rules willingly. If you don't want Jesus Christ to rule your life, he will never do that. Satan will want to rule your life by actually forcefully. He will rule your life as soon as he able to find the way how to take control of you. He will do that. Jesus Christ never do that. It's only willingly when you completely say I want you to rule my life. I'm so tired of this world. I'm so tired living the way I live. I want you to rule in my life. And he goes, "Okay, if you want me to rule your life, then you just follow me yourself. I'm not going to drag you. I want you to follow me." That's a willingly. So that's how he becomes the rule in our life. And third third element it's the approval. Approval again Jesus Christ goes to this church. I know your deeds. We've talked pretty much to every church Jesus Christ saying I know your deeds. Nowadays most of the preacher they would say deeds are not important. But I already quoted that before. We are saved by faith but we are judged by deeds. And in here Jesus Christ when he goes to every church at first he will say I know your deeds because your deeds represents who you are. It represents what's in your heart. And sometimes we even don't know who we are unless we do something bad. And then we goes, "Oh, I never knew this is in me." But this is not the time for us to fall, but this is the time to find out who we are and take this opportunity to change because our deeds represents what's inside of us. And that's why Jesus Christ saying, "I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut because you have little power and have kept my word and have not denied my name. When we read the church to Ephesus, the epistle to Ephesus, this is the church I would say had lot of power. It had lot of influence but it had it lost the first love towards Jesus Christ. In here it's opposite. Jesus Christ saying to this church you have little power. So it mean that this church was insignificant in the eyes of other churches in the eyes of other people but Jesus Christ saying even though they think that you're insignificant you are very significant to me and like I said I can relate to this church because a lot of times I mean I was in big churches I when I lived in Oregon. I was in one of the biggest church and I was preaching there as well and singing. So I know how to be in a big church. But right now we're in a smaller church and that's why I can relate where to the church that doesn't have a lot of influence. The church that is not popular. The church that is insignificant. Well, does Jesus Christ going to give advice to this church? Well, I advise you to become papar to become influential, to become maybe significant in the eyes of the other churches or the world. No, no, completely opposite. Jesus Christ saying to this church, but you kept my word. The most important thing was for you. It's not to do many things, but it's to do whatever I have commanded you. Maybe it's not that much, but I have commanded you to do this and you did it. That's very important because we can do many things that God did not ask us of. But what will be judged based on what god have asked us for if it's actually some of you doing a worship like by the way was especially the second song was beautiful song I love that song it it extremely important that someone put time to prepare that worship because it's open our hearts everything starts from actually little things Yeah. And little things make big things. And when everyone take their job extremely seriously, the worship people, maybe the mothers take their job to be serious, anyone who's actually sitting behind over there uh on sounds and videos. Everything is so important. At at this time, you're going to say, "Well, God never asked me to do anything. How do I know if I'm in my position? Well, God asks you through the leadership in the churches and if we are being faithful in that that goes whatever I have asked you of you kept my word. You took those things seriously and and one of the biggest approval God saying to this church and have kept my word. You did everything I have asked you to do. So that's an approval. Next thing, you have not denied my name. So this church probably their faith was tested as well and they did not deny Christ. How many of us actually denying Christ by maybe being shy to say I'm a Christian? Maybe we go somewhere to Starbucks or to the store and people trying to be cool and we also trying to be part of this actually environment and we kind of timidly denying Jesus Christ because we are ashamed of him. This church was small insignificant and it denied did not deny Jesus Christ. That's another approval. Some more of the approvals. Verse 10. Because you have kept my word of my perseverance. What does it mean to keep the word of perseverance? I've been thinking about that for some time and even when I was young and it kind made sense to me the word of perseverance. Why? When it comes to the word of God, there have to be a perseverance. Most likely in some other churches at that time, the people were performing some miracles. contrary to what word of God we're saying. And when the small church when they would see something like this and they think that God is over there but when they look into the word and word of God is contrary uh to what how they behave and even though they were tempted to follow those churches but when they went back to the word of God and say no word of God condemned that behavior you know we're going stick to the word of God. It's the perseverance. Even though they were tempted, they were tempted maybe be like part of those churches where they thought that but see there is a lot of miracles going on over there. But their behavior is opposite to word of go to what word of god is saying and they said no we're gonna stick to the word of god even though maybe we don't have a lot of power we don't have a lot of influence maybe some people would accuse that we don't have the uh the spirit of god in its mighty power in that church but we going to stick to the word and actually Christ commends them for that he's saying because you have kept my word of my perseverance and I will keep you from the hour of testing that hour which is about to come upon whole earth to test those who dwell on the earth. So those people who does not have perseverance in word of God they'll be tested. There is going to be come a time in your life in my life where your faith your trust in the word of God will be tested. And Jesus Christ saying just because you being actually persevering in my word when the time of testing will come to all people to all churches. I will keep you from that testing. You already show that you are good in that department. I don't have to test you anymore. I will pretty much preserve you and I will keep you from testing. So advice before I go into the advice I do want to mention also that to most churches there will be a concern the element number four concern that maybe you have the prophet prophetes of Elizabeth in your church or something like this or any other concerns to this church there is no concern at Jesus Christ only finds good in that in that church. There is no concern to this church. The only advice that Jesus Christ given to this church is that I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have. That's amazing. I mean, can you believe that Jesus Christ would tell you actually you are on the right path? I just want you to continue the way you are. That's a huge approval. Continue on your path. This church we see did not had lot of influence, did not had power. And Jesus Christ telling to this church, continue and hold to what you are. Don't try to actually get lot of power. Continue to what you are. Hold on to the word of God. And when it stating to hold on, it's mean obey because I mean how can we hold to the word of God? Are we just going to hold the Bible and we're going to walk with it? No. Obey my word. Obey my word. Hold on to the word of God because there is always danger to lose a crown so that no one may seize your crown. Crown equal to reward. So Jesus Christ saying you are in the right path and you will be rewarded in heaven. Hold on to that crown. Hold on to that reward because there is a danger to lose that reward. there is a danger to lose that crown. So me and you, we have responsibility to hold on to our reward as well which is to the crown. So promise promise. Yeah. Verse 10. Because you have kept the word of my perseverance. Very important. And I mean almost three times that Jesus Christ actually commanding that short that because you have kept my word of perseverance and again right here because you have kept my word of perseverance I also will keep you from the hour of testing. The hour which is about to come upon the whole world to test those who dwell on the earth. keep you from the hour of testing. Unfortunately, some preachers build it a doctrine that therefore the church will not go through the tribulation. It will be captured before the tribulation. But based on what it's written in here, Christ is saying, I will not have to let you be tested. I will keep you. In actually in a Russian translation, it says I will hide you. So as what I see that there is going to be a time of antichrist and Jesus Christ is saying right here pray that you pray that your flight may not be in winter or on Sabbath for then there will be a great tribulation such as had not been from the beginning of the world until now. No and never will be. So there will be a great tribulation. Every person will be tested. You will be tested as well. But there's going to be some people that Jesus Christ going to hide from this testing in the time of tribulation. And the way we see it's the time of antichrist where Jesus Christ going to hide his church. So in order not to be tested when everyone will be tested, we actually right now should show to God when we test it. When we actually go through some hard times, we are persevere in those hard times. We have patience. We are obeying the word of God. keep you from the hour of testing. And this is also in a Daniel, it's actually written about it that some people will go through the testing. And while they going to go through the testing, they will also be purified. But those who've been tested already, God will hide them and he will actually deliver them from this testing and he will preserve them in a certain place. So conclusion verse 12. The one who conquers I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never never shall he go out of it. And I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from the God out of heaven and my own new name, the pillar in temple. What's so important about it? If I'm going to ask, do you want to be pillar in some temple? You may say, well, I not sure what what it's mean by that. Well, we actually read in the Bible, Apostle Paul actually calling John, James and um yeah, uh Peter, John and James are are the pillars of the church. The new temple of God is the church. And if you actually persevere in the word of God, if you being patient, God's saying that I will reward you by make you a pillar of his church of the temple. That's a huge reward. Why are you going to be a pillar? Because you were the you were the stable one. when some actually false teaching came to some other churches. You have persevered in the word of God. You were the stable one. Since you were the stable one, I will make you pillar in the temple of God in the new temple. And then he's saying, I will write the God's name on you. You can be the one that will everyone will see and they will say you represent God because God's name will be written on you and also your name will be written in Jerusalem. We know that lot of movie stars they want make sure on there is in a Hollywood that make sure that there is a brick with their name and here Jesus Christ also saying I will write your name actually in the new Jerusalem that's a huge reward for this small church the church that had no power but the only thing seems like the only thing what they did right they I had patience and perseverance to obey the word of God. In conclusion, I want to ask you how is obeying of the word of God in your life? Do you follow word of God? That's why Jesus Christ were saying I am the truth. I am the way. Are you find the truth for your life, for your practical life in the word of God? Or you are looking for some other sources, maybe for some other psychologies that is like experiment in your life. You know, we just need to dive in into the word of God and apply it. And if we do that, you see what kind big reward. And if God have asked you of something and like I said, maybe he asks you through the minister of the church, maybe the position where you are to be faithful in that. And if you are faithful, you see what kind of huge reward. And may God bless all of us. And give us strength to obey the word of God and to understand God is holy. He is true. And he is the key of David. He is your king. And you should willingly, freely make Christ to be the king of your life. Amen. Let's pray. God, we're thanking you for this day that we Lord, lift your name on high. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Lord, I lift your name on high. Lord, I love to sing your praises. [Music] I'm so glad you're in my life. I'm so glad you came to save us. You came from heaven to earth to show the way. From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay. From the cross to the grave. From the grave to the sky. Lord, I lift your name on us. Lord, I lift your name on high. [Music] Lord, I love to sing your praises. I'm so glad you're in my life. I'm so glad you came to save us. You came from heaven to earth to show the way. From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay. From the cross to the grave. From the grave to the sky. Lord, I lift your name on high. You came from heaven to earth to show the way. From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay. From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky. Lord, I lift your name on high. Praise God. Praise God. My dear friends, our service is over and we just sung a very beautiful song about what Jesus did for you and me. How he showed his love to die for us and save us from our sins. And I guess today I I want to give some homework to to all of us. and it's uh nice to see some some friends here. Uh welcome. But um this week since we heard about staying faithful and true to the word of God, let's start reading and applying it. When you open up to read the Bible this week, say, "Lord, how can I apply this in my life? How can I persevere that when I see you face to face, you will say, "Here's my crown. Here's the crown that I promised you. I love you because you persevered in a time when it wasn't easy. And this week, once again, my friends, church, we got homework to do. Lord, help us apply this word to our life. Amen to that. If uh does anybody have any needs? If nobody has needs, just a reminder, Tuesday Bible study, 8:30 a.m. at the Cafea coffee shop.
