Waiting on God and the Authority of His Word

praise God um I'd like to start off with reading 1 John uh chapter 5 verse1 14 and this is the confidence that we have toward him that if we seek anything according to his will he hears us and if we know that he hears Us in whatever we ask we know that we have the request that we have asked of him and when we pray according to to God's will he hears us as as it says in this verse and we can be confident in our requests being received and heard by God and this doesn't mean like uncovering God's secret plans uh but praying in line with the Bible's teachings and uh God's desire for his people and effective prayer it aligns um our requests with God's Will and it's also engaging in faithful patient and obedient prayer which is ultimately like communion with God and um with that being said let's take some time now to pray and be more thoughtful of how we pray uh with our requests um so let's stand up and pray God we thank you for all theise and glory to you all praise and glory be to you Lord may you bless and service God and us with the Holy Spirit God we pray and we ask God God Lord praise and glory Lord we thank you for this time that they given us today Lord that we're able to come down to this place God that you've given us this beautiful day Lord and we ask you to fill this place with the Holy Spirit God may your work be done here Lord and so we can learn and to grow from mighty to sing he is mighty to sa forever author of salvation heo and conquer the grave Jesus conquer [Music] the praise God brothers and sisters um today my sermon it'll be it'll be about waiting on God and I'd like to read from Lamentations 3: 25 the Lord is good to those who wait for him to the soul who seeks him you know all of us here we're we're waiting for something you know whether it is big or small um we are all mostly looking to the Future and you know some here might be waiting to get into high school um some might be waiting to get married um some maybe they're already waiting to have their fifth kid you know or some Elders might even say that uh they're already looking to heaven so uh you know or it could be like even a need that you have been praying and praying for for a long time and whatever it is we're all waiting for something and of course uh for a Christian also the ultimate we is to achieve eternal life with Christ Our Lord um and I'd like to bring up an example from the Bible about a story a story of Joseph I think we all kind of know this um but I'll kind of run through it again just as a refresher so Joseph was uh the 11th son of Jacob and the first son of Rachel and it made him uh basically Jacob's favorite son and he received a beautiful quot from his father which aroused a jealousy in all of his brothers and uh Joseph would then also get a dreams and the dreams were of you know of everybody bowing down to him and when he told us to to his family they would laugh and um we know that he is then sold into slavery by his own Brothers to potifar and um with God's blessing Joseph eventually became in charge of poter for's household as well and uh we know that uh the Piper's wife accuses Joseph of trying to seduce her later on and then he gets thrown into prison and for many many years he's in that prison and is eventually released to interpret Pharaoh's dream and uh that's because nobody else could and this dream was about um about the famine in Egypt and about you know the cows and and all those kind of things so he was able to interpret this dream and then once Pharaoh saw that he put him second in command over all of Egypt and uh we know that when this famine starts to happen that Joseph's family comes to Egypt looking for food and then we know that they're reunited and you know everything starts to go better from there for uh Joseph but this was all a very long way and many many years went by so kind of try to like put yourself in the shoes of Joseph how do you think like you would feel in his shoes like how would you feel or act in that case um it's it's a very difficult Journey but Joseph he kept trusting in God and waiting on him and in Isaiah 40:31 it says but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength they shall Mount up with wings as eagles they shall run and not be wary and they shall walk and not faint and this is exactly what happened to Joseph you know he persevered and he kept um his faith in God which allowed his strength to be renewed and renewed imagine all those times when you know just from the very beginning he was thrown into that hole um then he was taken into slavery and then he had to work as a slave and then he was thrown into prison just imagine how many times his strength had to be renewed and um we can only do that by waiting upon the Lord as it says in Isaiah over here because we shall renew our strength by waiting upon him and um it's even like a basical uh basic principle of investing it's like the longer you wait the greater your return will be and one day when we get to heaven know God will allow us to see all the pauses in our lives and why they needed to happen and God is out of Dimensions like it's so complex it's it's just like our brain our brains can't even comprehend it and uh we just see the one Dimensions that we are in but God sees all of them and he knows exactly what is best for us and a good example is Job's story when he was asking God a bunch of questions and and God answered him and I kind of like to read just a small part of that as well which is Job chapter 38 verse 4 to1 and this is God speaking where were you when I laid the Earth's Foundation tell me if you understand who marked off its Dimensions surely you know who stretched a measuring line across it on what were its footings set or who laid its Cornerstone while the morning Stars sang together and all the Angels shouted for Joy who shot up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place when I said this is far you may come and no further here's where your proud waves Halt and God goes on and explaining and explaining how he created the universe and um then job is like he's like mindblown and then he responds later on in Job chapter 40:3 then job answered the Lord I am unworthy how can I reply to you I put my hand over my mouth I spoke once but I have no answer twice but I will say no more so God sees everything he he knows everything sees everything and um I'd also just like to bring up like one part from uh Luke 12:7 as well indeed the very hairs of your head are all numbered do not be afraid you're worth more than many sparrows and people really can't comprehend how deep and how far and wide is God's love like we just can't comprehend it and there's this one story of of a man actually he uh he kept praying to God and he asked him um God can you give me a little feeling of how much love you have towards us and he kept on praying and praying and eventually God answered on his request and he showed him a little bit of his love and he woke up one day and he was just walking around and looking at people and he loved them so much that he was just crying for every single person and he just couldn't stop crying and he had so much love for each person and he wanted to help every single person um but he was just one being like he can't do it all he was just one human and uh that's when he understood how deep God's love is and you know the thing that you're praying for and waiting on God sees every ounce of it he knows every breathing second of your life he like only wants the best for you and God loves us so much that he has to take us through various circumstances in our lives that shape us teach us and detach us from uh the things of this world and God wants every single one of us to be with him eternally and we can't do that if we are attached to Earthly things and um we could also see that God loved us so much that he sent his only son and Jesus Christ paid every single debt of ours and we are free from anything that bounds us on this Earth by the blood of Jesus what he did on the cross for us amen for that and you know anything that you're praying for or a problem that you think is just too big for God it's literally nothing for him like God can solve it in an instant he created the whole universe nothing is too big for him and there's a reason why everything happens and there's a reason why we need to wait on the Lord and there's a timing for every single thing so uh you know we might not see it now but we will see why we needed this one day so I'd like to end off with Psalm uh chapter 130 verse 5 I wait for the Lord my whole being Waits and in his word word I put my hope so what do we do as it says here in Psalms we wait in the Lord and we put our hope in his word so that's all we can do we just wait and put our hope in in what God says because God knows it all and we have to trust in this timing um amen amen standing up will all be singing you are faithful [Music] still when my heart is Raising deep inside my church [Music] when I'm underneath the way of anxiousness when my fear is ring I can catch my breath I will remember you [Music] areful still Carry Me Through deeper waters walk beside me through the [Music] fire just turn it on listen to it and May the word of God you know penetrate our hearts um another thing some things that we have coming up uh this month we're having an easter event for our kids um as well as if you if you want to invite your friends who have kids uh it's going to be March 30th it's going to be a busy week because all of us are going to be preparing for Easter Sunday Serv which is the 31st um and it's going to be a little hectic for the Youth you know because they're planning this out um but it's going to be from 2: to 5 if you guys uh take these invitation cards it has all the information on the back and if you have somebody at work you guys can uh give it to them or somebody at school you can give it to them and um it has the time and the date on our uh next activities so it's going to include a lot of I would say exciting stuff for the kids and the kids are going to also be able to learn a little bit about the Bible so there's going to be uh Leah she's going to be leading um in an artistic um I would say class we know she's an artist and she's going to be teaching the kids which it's interesting because uh like on YouTube there's this person who who teaches how to uh draw and all my kids even my like younger daughter she's she's you know uh drawing how he's showing and it looks like like his picture so so kids are excited about that and there's going to be other stations as well um the youth is going to prepare some games um and there's going to be some music and all that stuff so invite your friends your families with small kids and let's have some fun um then of course let's not forget that next month we're having a clothing drive so if you guys do have um anything that you guys are willing to give um wash it and uh give it to Rosa and Emma uh make sure it's nothing like you know that's already you can see see that there's a hole going to be the next day you know um but if you guys have something that you don't wear anymore or it's small on you because we do live in America we grow sideways so um instead of up so if if something is small on you you guys can uh bring it here and our ladies like Emma and Rosa they'll they'll take care of it um another thing so these Bible story books I got some more because we we kind of ran out but these these things um I have a neighbor that um that doesn't believe in God you know and and uh they were always you know like we would kind of share with them and stuff but I'm telling you through the kids God works through the kids God works uh so there's two neighbors one neighbor they have a daughter who's who's like uh 11 years old all of a sudden they started going to church uh she got a Bible and stuff like that D and now the parents are taking her to church you know so so that means that they're also going to church so uh praise God for that so you know um like if you guys have neighbors with small kids take some books give it to them um because I think like through the kids God works Amen to that um and that will be like it for today just remember March 30th but if you guys do take these cards it's on the back it's our Easter event next month is our clothing Drive um and that's worship your holy name let's open our Bibles together to Second Timothy chapter we're going to start in verse in chapter 3 verse 16 and we're going to go to chapter 4 verse five this is the same verse that we did the same passage that we did last week this is the second part of that and bear in mind as you're going there that this is God's holy word it is authored by the holy spirit is therefore free of any mistakes of any kind and is absolutely authoritative over every part of our lives and is actually the only final Authority in what we are to believe and do so be addressed by the holy spirit all scripture is breathed out by God and prophet for Doctrine for reproof for correction for training in righteousness so that the man of God may be complete equipped for every good work therefore I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is to judge judge the living and the dead at his appearing in his kingdom preach the word be ready in season and out of season reprove rebuke exhort with all patience and instruction for the time will come when they will not endure sound Doctrine but wanting to have their ears tickled they will accumulate for themselves teachers in a accordance with their own desires and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths but you be sober in all things endure hardship do the work of an evangelist fulfill your ministry let's pray father what does that mean fulfill your ministry what is each of our Ministries iies what do we what is your call on our lives how do we know is it out of our imagination What we feel like doing is it what we distincly don't feel like doing is it something we're good at like uh some people who are really good at things is it something that we're bad at like Moses wasn't a good public speaker what will you have us do what will be our ministry and uh may we ask that you call us to service in the church every one of us in one way or another knowing that that any that that any of the gifts that you bestow are still valid and of The Same Spirit uh we ask you that you send your holy spirit to guide us in uh this scripture today will you bless us with Insight we ask this in the name of Jesus Amen all right well it's nice to see everybody again did everybody bring their Bible bunch of people brought their Bibles okay we're working on this we're working on this right as I said this is the second uh installment in the same set of verses and there's so much to say you could actually do a series on this um but I'm just going to what I'm going to do is I'm going to talk through it again and cover some things that we didn't cover last week last week I made the case that we have no choice in these things and that was the title of the sermon we have in these things we have no choice and I gave a short list of what we don't have choices in one of those is because uh we we have no choice but but we must become a scripture oriented Church the Bible has to be the number one form of entertainment in our life and one reason is because all of the scripture is breathed out by God that's the point I made last week I also said why do we have to do that because it's commanded by God by the author of the universe therefore we have no choice to disbelieve or disobey any of God's words is to disbelieve or disobey God himself God has not given us that choice it's not optional I also made a little case that the tong time has come now I'm just going to talk about a few more things in here in these things we have no choice the first two words of 3:16 Says all scripture is God breathed not some of it not most of it all scripture now last week week we went to three places in the Bible where it says do not add or subtract from my words and now that many of us are in the direction of having our Bibles with us let's go to those three places and may I ask the Holy Spirit maybe Lord will you send your Holy Spirit to witness to us when we see the verses it's Deuteronomy 4 chapter 2 let's go there first that I say chapter 2 Deuteronomy 4 verse 2 there's that beautiful sound of the pages turning throughout the sanctuary that's the sound of God's kingdom coming that much closer and one increment at a time verse two says you shall not add to the word which I am commanding you nor take away from it that you may keep the Commandments of the Lord your God which I command you now it says the same thing in Deuteronomy 1232 but now let's go that's in the early part of the Bible let's go to the middle of the Bible in proverbs 30 we're going to look at verse vers 5 and six now these are not the only places that it says things like this but these are good examples in proverbs 30 verse 5 every word of God is tested that's really similar to where it says in 2 Timothy 3:16 all scripture is God breathed every word of God is tested he is a shield to those who take refuge in him do not add to his words or he will reprove you and you will be proved a liar there's that word reprove everybody know what reprove means I'm always having to define words for my high school classes that word reproved is the opposite of approve approve or reprove he will reprove you you will be proved a liar now let's go to the end of the book this is the last page in my Bible Revelation 22 verses 18 and 19 says this I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book if anyone adds to them God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy God will take away his part from the Tree of Life and from the holy city which are written in this book okay let's go back for a minute to Second Timothy actually I'm just going to flip for a moment back to 1 Timothy which is just a few pages back in 1 Timothy chapter 1 verse3 I was just teaching this in my Sunday school class it says as I urged you upon my departure from Macedonia everybody have it 1 Timothy 1 verse3 remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines other doctrines different doctrines see that's adding to the word of God the word of God is what it is and adding to it is teaching something else or teaching something that's not in accordance with sound Doctrine not doesn't line up with scripture right in the Old Testament Deuteronomy 18 Moses told the Israelites well the Lord did through Moses that you know they're wondering how do we know if a prophet is a true prophet and he says if what he says fails to come true don't be afraid of him if it does come true you know that he's a true Prophet now what do we have in the New Testament age what we have is the whole Canon of scripture how do we know if someone is speaking the truth if it lines up with scripture if it's adding to scripture it's false don't follow that person also I think built in to this when it says all scripture and then a few verses later it's saying preach the word I think it's saying preach the whole word you know you have to preach the whole scripture whole books of the Bible we should be familiar with the whole thing now all scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for Doctrine Doctrine is profitable what is Doctrine Doctrine is the conclusion you come to studying scripture theology is the study or science of God it's the study we're asking questions when we arrive at an answer that's a Doctrine When we arrive at what was required of us that's Doctrine Doctrine is profitable it's beneficial to us for training in righteousness training who wants training in righteousness of course and we're given no choice there now there's an interesting thing I'm going to divert from the verse here just a a moment to add uh not to add to the word but to uh go up a few verses in second Timothy where it says so that the man of God may be complete um one translation that I found was tying together uh and saying that another word was implied there and uh let me just show you we're right here in 2 Timothy 3 um it's clear that he's talking to Timothy in 3 ver1 he says but read realize this like you realize this in verse 10 it says now you followed my teaching conduct purpose Faith patience so on and in verse 14 you however continue in the things you have learned and then in verse 17 training and righteousness so that you the man of God may be complete equipped for every good work it's personal so that you may be complete and adequate by the way what it also says here is that scripture is sufficient scripture is enough it's adequate it is enough for you to be equipped for every good work right now who would what Soldier would go into a battlefield that's not equipped I assure you there is a battle on we must be equipped we must know our scripture oh I heard this story this woman was in a communist prison and uh Bibles were forbidden I I don't remember I'm sorry I don't know exactly where it was but she she had remembered that as a child she had gone to church and she had had Sunday School classes and she just longed for the word of God but it was completely unavailable and she tried so hard to remember what were what were those verses we did and she tried and tried and and uh and uh one day uh she was crawling around under the under the bed and she found this nail and uh she kind of kept the nail and she kept it and then she remembered one of the verses and so she crawled under the bed and on the plaster wall underneath the bed she scratched on the plaster the verse the best that she could remember it and she she prayed and prayed and dreamed of what were these verses and she crawled under the bed and with the nails she scratched another verse and every chance she'd get when there were no guards she'd go under there and she'd she'd read the verses and pray and uh after a while took her a while the whole wall underneath the bed was covered in Verses that she could remember anyway she finally got transferred to another prison and I think she was there for some years in the prison and one day she's at a work Camp bunch of other women and I think they're digging carrying rocks breaking rocks some kind of hard manual labor and she made friends with another woman there and somehow she figured out that this woman had come to Christ and this woman said I know some verses and she said these verses and they were the same verses and she said how do you know those verses and she said they put me in this cell and I discovered that underneath the bed someone had scratched all these verses under on the wall under the bed and she had come to Christ based on these verses so I'm going to give you some more reasons than I gave last week why we have to do this why we have no choice to learn the scripture and we have to learn the whole scripture I'm going to start at the bottom in uh 2 Timothy 4 verse3 it says for the time will come when they will not endure sound Doctrine isn't that what was happening to that woman she was in a country where they did not endure sound Doctrine it was not allowed uh that tends to be the way the communist countries view scripture it's not allowed I'm going to say that that's coming here there are already powerful people who want that to be true right here right now may I say if and when heaven forbid that it happens but if and when that were to happen how many verses do you know to scratch on the wall underneath your prison bed I'd say we need to learn a lot more scripture we need to commit it to our memory we need to speak it when we get up when we lie down when we go in when we come out we need to eat drink sleep live and breathe God's word we need to hunger for God's word that's one thing we should pray for I should just ask right now let us remember this pray ask the Lord to give you a hunger for his word ask him to give you a thirst where does it say Psalm 42 As the deer pants for the Stream So I hunger for you we should thirst for God's word that should be our fruit Jesus said he said my food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to accomplish his works so because the time is coming here's another reason chapter 4 verse1 because it's commanded here's Paul an apostle sent by Christ he says I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus so he's commanding it who is to judge the living and the dead we're going to stand before our maker well did you learn God's word well sort of a little bit here I got a question how many here believe every word in the Bible okay let me ask you this how many people believe everything that you see on the internet okay now let me ask you how many here spend more time on the internet every day than you ever spend on the Bible in a week yeah we got some yes answers there so I think we're going to stand before the Lord and we need to flip that so what he says this is in another translation instead of I solemnly charge you it says therefore I charge you in the presence of God what's the therefore Anytime by the way here's a rule of interpreting scripture if you find the word therefore find out what it's there it says therefore because of what it says before because all scripture is God breathed therefore in the presence of God knowing that you're going to be judged you're going to stand before him what does he say in verse chapter 4 verse two he says preach the word so here the next phrase really caught my attention be ready in season and out of season now what could that mean I know one thing it means that I talked about a habit that we all need to break here's another habit we have to break we have to quit treating a sermon as like an assignment like okay I don't have to work on this until well as soon as I'm on schedule then I'm going to work now I'll have to come up with this it's this assignment no you know John Calvin he was in Geneva for I don't know I don't I want to say a decade or so and I understand during that time he he preached more than 4,000 sermons now we had a a man here Joel Bei he's pretty big preacher and he came and he blessed a bunch of churches he's the church we used to go to he he preached a sermon there and we found out where he was going to go he preached at I think at our church on a Thursday somewhere else on a Friday I think he did two on a Saturday at a conference and then he did at least two more sermons on Sunday and we went to almost all of them it was a totally different message every time how do you do that if you have to treat each one as an assignment how can you be ready out of season here's the answer you have to eat drink sleep live and breathe God's word in uh Matthew let's go to Matthew chapter 12 verse 34 and here's a clue giving you a minute to find it there you all know this you'll recognize it when you see it it's the last bit it says the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart so there's the key fill your heart and your mind to overflow flowing with God's word and you'll have plenty to say matter of fact you can't keep it in it it overflows let's go to Luke chapter 6 real quickly this is actually not 100% necessary because it says just the same thing it says the mouth speaks from that which fills the heart so that's how you are to be ready in season and out of season okay be ready in season and out of season now here's another thing that could be meant by in season and out of season is that you have to preach the word whether your congregation is wanting to hear it and when they're not wanting to hear it see it says reprove you have to show disapproval now wait a minute didn't we see that word before yeah and look in ver in uh chapter 3: 16 profitable for Doctrine for reproof profitable for reproof why would reproof be profitable who would want to have anything that they do disapproved of because it's wrong it needs to be disapproved approved of we need to have our hearts convicted you know I've been a teacher my whole life and uh you know you have to if you want the student to improve they have to know what's wrong so that they can do what's right you know if it's playing the cello or playing the piano the teacher has to tell them what's wrong the preacher can't tickle their ears this is to contrast with chapter 4 uh verse three where it says they won't endure sound Doctrine but wanting to have their ears tickled they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires so you have to tell them you have to preach unpopular topics which are true and it says it right here it's commanded not my idea folks I didn't write this I'm reading this this is God's word word reprove rebuke that means to criticize sharply exort that means to encourage passionately with great patience I need to work on patience and instruction all right so there we go there's our list it's not a popular top 10 list but habits we have to break many of us are on the way to breaking the habit of leaving the Bible home when we go to church or School God bring your Bibles to school to do you know what I have found I have found that having my own personal Bible is better than like a Pew Bible the Pew Bible as I was talking last week um different churches have dealt different ways with this problem one way is to have the little flickering light over here that has the verse up here but see it's a flickering light and then it's gone forever it's like the river that's going by it's never the same river twice as soon as you step one foot in and you go to step the next foot in it's already a different bunch of water you know the verse comes up here and you go what was that verse and you look up and it's already gone you need a hard copy you need old school if real bad people have control of the internet you might be glad you have a hard copy hard copies don't have glitches their batteries don't die it's good stuff and it stays there and you can read it slow or read it fast you can read it again and again so I'm old school I believe in paper ink book folks I think I've uh told you uh five or six things now and we're gonna we're g to go on I'm going to leave you with one more little story this is um having to do with hungering and thirsting for God's word in uh China Christianity was illegal Bibles were illegal and there was a small group of people moving uh they were meeting in their in a house and uh they had heard that there's religious freedom in America and and that just sounded so wonderful to them that what they did is they they actually raised money they pulled their money together and they hired a preacher from America to come and talk to them and they they actually got a a preacher who had some who's well known and so they pulled the money they got a plane ticket and uh paid him the fee and he came there and they were all there and he gave a 45 minute sermon and he was done and they were so disappointed because they were used to preaching for six hours then having some food in another 3 hours then sleep a little bit and get up the next day and preach for another six hours I think that they are blessed by their poverty and we are cursed by our abundance I'll call that good for now it's just past 6 let's pray all together we'll be singing our last song called with all I [Music] am I commit again with all I am for you you all my world in you you're the reason that I live the reason that I see with all [Music] I praise God my dear friends our service has come to the end and we heard good message today that the Holy Spirit has been speaking and through uh brother Vlad the message was waiting on God how we know the life of Joseph uh that was was a journey that probably none of us would want to take up but God doesn't ask uh questions he just does his work and how we have to wait on the Lord and I think especially this church has um understood that God works on his time not on our time Amen to that and uh brother Doug was um leading a topic on the Bible that the word of God is God's word breathed by God written through men by God and whenever we read it that's the truth and whenever we want to seek like an answer in our life we go to the word of God because it was written by God Amen to that uh does anybody have any needs looks like everybody's been blessed amen to that nobody's sick everybody's doing good praise God for that let's pray Lord God we thank you for the message that was spoken today Lord God may we use the word of God in our life to be more like Jesus Christ Lord we ask for the holy spirit to guide us in our paths Lord God wherever we are at work at home with our friends Lord God that we are Guided by the Holy Spirit Lord God and May the word of God uh grow in us like that mustard seed that became a tree Lord that we can be used for your glory I uh bless the rest of this week Lord and may you uh be with us wherever we are God that in everything we do we uh glorify your Holy Name may your name be praised and glorified in Jesus name amen my Father in heaven Hallowed Be Your Name Your Kingdom Come your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us lead us not into temptation but Deliver Us from the evil one for your kingdom your power and Glory forever are yours amen
