well welcome to the opening of this service um and I'd like to start off from Ephesians chap 2: 19 so then you are no longer strangers and Aliens but you are fellow citizens with the Saints and members of the household of God built on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets Christ Jesus himself being the Cornerstone in whom the whole structure being joined together grows in a into a holy Temple in the Lord and uh I just Creed like some three points about this verse and the first is being that Christ is the Cornerstone and it emphasizes kind of like the central role of Jesus Christ in the foundation and and unity of the church and back then when when it was being built and then also that the Believers are members of God's uh church and it highlights the transformation from being Outsiders to becoming members of God's household and uh the third being church as a spiritual dwelling for God so it illustrates the church not as a physical building but as a spiritual structure where God resides through the spirit so with that being said let's begin with some prayer going to stand up Lord God we thank you for the service that you've given us Lord this grand opening God and we ask for the Holy Spirit to come down onto the Place God we ask you to bless the preaching bless the singing God and open up to the hearts of every single person here Lord we ask you to bless the that we can all be here today and it is a blessing that we can be in the house of the Lord together um let's just praise God for this moment for this wonderful time that we have all right here you know for those who are just getting on the path and for those who have been a long way on the path everyone's Journey as a Christian is filled with various types of seasons of life and the process of maturing and staying consistent is pretty hard and these things aren't always easily so done you know David's life um if we read a lot about him in the Bible is something something really great you know he battled with his own character at times when we read about his story he questioned his own faith and he fought against his own desires we cannot think to ourselves that becoming a Christian means your life is perfect now but Jesus tells us to be perfect in Matthew 5:48 he says you therefore must be perfect as my father is perfect but that is a difficult task to accomplish every single day David like most Christians in life had many great victories we can recount David and Goliath that wonderful story and we can recount even way more um stories and victories where David had and importantly these stories these victories they built his confidence in the Lord they shaped his character because friends betrayed him people who he thought were allies left him and through this process I believe he became a very strong Christian and the theme of my sermon begins in second Samuel uh chapter 10 if we all turn there 2 Samuel chapter 10 and it lays the foundation to my message today the ammonites before I even begin reading is it's going to be talking about the ammonites and David defeating the ammonites they were a people um if we look back into history related and were the descendants of lot and when Israel was even entering the promised land they were one of the very uh First Nations that did not allow Israel to pass through their land they were very aggressive very um hated they hated Israel a lot and so when they were entering they they offered Israel a lot of problems in life as they were entering this new um new country in this new area new season of life and God actually instructed the Israelites actually not to war with them because they were the um descendants of lot he actually promised them that they would have uh part of that land and that God would not give over to the Israelites so by doing so he allowed them to flourish and and grow and so David you know in the opening of this chapter he heard that his fellow Old King had passed away of the king of ammonites and so his son had become the new king and so David he takes his servants he sends them out because he wants to reestablish his loyalty with his old friend with this Old Kingdom and as David sends his servants there this chapter it shows and shares what that King did to them and how he disrespected David and his gift that he actually brought because of bad advisors and with poor counsel you know and the disrespect he later instead of apologizing even though he realized it um he wants he goes to war with Israel taking a roughly to 33,000 to 70,000 men against Israel by not just simply admitting the mistake or maybe making uh peace with each other he falls onto to his pride and a lot of blood is shed and so I begin reading in verse 9 and I'm going to read till 12 and this is when they start to war against these ammonites when joab saw that the battle was set against him this is a servant of David both in front and in the rear he chose some of the best men of Israel and array them against the syrians the rest of his men he put in ch in the charge them against uh in charge of the Abisha his brother and he arrayed them against the ammonites and he said if the syrians are too strong for me then you shall help me but if the ammonites are too strong for you then I will come and help you be of good courage and let us be courageous for our people and for the cities of God and may the Lord do what seems good to him and the ending of this chapter is in verse 19 when it said and when all the kings who who were Servants of head dzer saw that they had been defeated by Israel they made peace with Israel and became subject to them so the syrians were afraid of the ammonites anymore that very year in the spring after receiving such a wonderful Victory if we do our homework and read over this chapter we'll see how gracious God was for the Israelites but that very year in the spring the next chapter over David Falls and stumbles he falls and stumbles one of the most um well-known of his sins uh with Beth Sheba a woman whom he gets pregnant he gets pregnant and when he finds out about this instead of fixing his fault he goes and murders her husband and thinks that no one will catch on to him and these are the following few chapters when we read in second Samuel 111 12113 we see how David's life and season spirals into many great conflicts um and many great problems his son Absalom and so his life we can picture it becoming very dark depressive and because of sin this world experiences a lot of Darkness not just David it makes everyone's life miserable especially when you are a Christian when you fall and you think to yourself man I don't deserve forgiveness maybe this time when I felt it's awkward for me to come to the lord it's awkward for me to come to God and ask for forgiveness but that is Satan trying to plant a seed to try to destroy something that can still be renewed still be changed and you beat your heart you you said I made a promise to God that I won't fail but you fail we all fail time and time again you know and for some it's when their role models mess up when their leaders mess up they take it to heart it destroys them it breaks their heart they become churchard why are there so many deconstructionists nowadays all because of these things I mean when you look at the bride of Christ and how the world has labeled it it labels it as those Hypocrites that Gather in churches those Pharisees those people who who think their life is so perfect but we know truly deep down what and how they live like and my friends I'll be the first to admit I know I can't promise to not be 100% perfect 100% without blemish without sin I can't promise these things no one can we cannot promise to ourselves that we'll be never be Hypocrites we will we will fall we will fail but I like how One Pastor said it as the world is labeling Christian Christians and Christianity all what he says is they never promised that they wouldn't be those things they're just a beggar trying to help another beggar find some food a person who is sick they they found healing in the church they found it through Christ and all what they're trying to do is bringing another sick person to church to know Jesus Christ and depend on him and and get their healing through that my friends if you are the church hurt deconstructionist you always say I believed in Jesus there are so many testimonies of people deconstructing and these are Christians falling away and never turning to Christ and they said I always believed in Christ I always followed him but there was a point in my life where I just grew out of it but that is a lie because your savior wasn't Jesus Christ it was your role models and your pastures and so inevitably when they did fail when they did fall instead of depending on Jesus Christ a lot of these people dependent on their pastors and weren't disappointed because of Jesus but because of their leaders and pastors or even role models of any sort but Jesus he gives us hope by saying I am the way the truth and the life and no one comes through the father except through me friends the Christian Life begins with stop with stopping to depend on ourselves on those who are our leaders to save us these are G good people around us they lead us spiritually they guide us upon the journey but they also stumble they also fall just like us no one is perfect and no one is claiming to be perfect except Jesus Christ and a person who learns how to drive you know he never looks at an indicating sign and says you know I'm going to travel into this stop sign I'm going to travel into this turn sign no they're indicator signs for a reason they tell us where to go and where we must go so if we're driving 50 miles an hour and hit a speed sign and an officer pulls us over he'll think we're crazy but many Christians they live their lives like like this they drive and they fully depend on their leaders and they fully depend on their role models to get them to heaven when the path is completely different the path is only by Jesus Christ and following him and making him our leader those people in our Lives who are our pastors they're important to help us stay on the journey but we can see how many churches are changing how many churches are Mon modernizing and saying that I am the way the truth and the life they're saying this the pastors are the leaders are and they're allowing their Believers to crash and to completely fall and basically guarantee their failure then why do we misinterpret these traffic signs for the path leaders pastors and mentors our job is to point others to Christ Point others to the path praise God for that when we go away from that when we say depend on our faith because our faith will save you that is where we go wrong that is where we can make a mistake and that's where many Christians fail and fall so depend on Jesus he is the way he is the truth he is the life let us bow our heads let us get on our knees and pray amen father God I just pray right now Lord as we're opening our grand opening for this service today many people are looking for you many people have been looking for you but their leaders have failed them they themselves have failed them Lord the themselves and I pray God for everyone here I pray for their hearts that they make it right with you Lord that they make in their own lives to submit to you to follow you and to make you their lord lord and they may follow you with their whole heart Lord so I pray God may you bless the rest of this service may you bless everyone who came here today and may you Lord may your name be glorified may your name be praised amen and the next song we'll be you can have all this world give me [Music] Jesus Give Me Jesus you can have all this world you can have all this [Music] world good evening friends it's good to be with everybody tonight I am excited to be here it's a blessing to be in the house of the Lord amen everybody I mean how blessed are we to be able to be in here together there's a lot of people that can't even go into a church you know I was reading something the other day where in 2013 14,000 churches were either shut down or burnt a lot of them across Africa and can we bring up an image real quick this image is from World War II actually and I remember when I was looking at this image When I Was preparing for this sermon I was thinking and it's not just about the building there because that building eventually one day will fall or probably has fallen but to me it's more what it represents that the foundation of the church when it's built on Christ and him first and him alone that is the only hope we have when I look at this image I think about even some of the world that we live in right now what sin does to us what it does to this world that everything can look like destruction oh but I love psalms 27 the Lord is my light and my salvation who shall my Who Shall I Fear it makes me think that you could be walking up by yourself in all that destruction and be walking up that path to the church and I love I love what was said earlier by our brothers where in indeed the church isn't perfect but my friends throughout human history when you think about hospitals when you think about schools when you think about all the good things all the orphanages they started with the church because it's not about the building here it's about who's in that building it's about who who's in that building tonight it's us and if you're not a believer in Christ I hope by the the time that I'm done with this sermon may be wellbe and it will not be by by my doing it will only be by Christ and him alone I'm just a messenger friend and I still wonder why God you chose me someday I'm going to share my testimony it's only going to be on a day though when I have a lot of Kleenex up here this image also makes me think of Matthew 16:18 and I tell you you are Peter and on this rock I will build my church and the Gates of Hell shall not Prevail against it there's always going to be the church friend because there's always going to be Christians there's always going to be Christ and yes sometimes it's not always going to be a church we can go go into sometimes it's going to be the underground church but that's still the church because it's made of the Believers the title of my message is a firm foundation let us turn if you have your Bible to Matthew 7:24 through 27 therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine and does them I will liken him to a wise man who has built his house on the rock and the rain descended the floods came and the winds blew and beat on the house and it did not fall for it was founded on the rock the foundation but everyone who hears these things of mine and does not do them will be like the foolish man who built his house on the sand and the rain descended and the floods came and the winds blew and beat on the house and it fell listen to that last part right there friends and great was the fall not it fell great was the fall we have to have a firm foundation Jesus begins this Parable with a crucial statement everyone who hears these words of mind and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock I love seeing everybody here tonight by the way all the new fa there's new faces praise God the rock represents Jesus Christ the unchanging and solid foundation upon which the church must be built when we see churches is falling a lot of times it's because they get away from this and they add half of the world and half of this into the church and we see that happening even now it can't be half Christ half the world it's all Christ friends it's 100% him it's all built on that solid foundation all of it in 1 Corinthians 3:11 the Apostle Paul States for no other Foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid which is in Christ Jesus he is the unshakable Cornerstone upon which our lives are built and it is crucial to recognize and appreciate the Firm Foundation laid by the sacrifice resurrection and teachings of our Lord and savior I said this in the youth other night whenever I write teachings or when I read about that and I think like teachings almost isn't even like a strong enough word because when you think of it like teaching it's like well then maybe there's another option so I actually could just say the sacrifice the resurrection and the truth of our Lord and savior and wouldn't you want real truth in a world that right now nobody knows what real truth is 90% of everything that we normally see is fake that image that I showed earlier that is real but we live in a time when we don't even know if pictures are real anymore where are you going to find your truth friends somewhere it can't be from the world it's shifting sand you will fall and Christ it's not just the priority of our life he is where all things of Truth and purpose begin if you want to find your purpose find Christ if you want to find the truth Christ if you want to find everything about your life in him so I'm saying all things in the Savior I have three points tonight number one the wise Builder the wise Builder not only hears the words of Christ but he puts them to practice obedience is the the key to a solid foundation involves aligning our hearts with the principles of Love Grace forgiveness and righteousness that Christ teaches us when we build our lives upon the rock of obedience to Christ we are fortified against the storms of life not every day is going to be a Friday not every day is perfect that Christ is a life built on obedience to Christ may still encounter storms indeed but it remind it remains steadfast because it is the foundation that is unshakable you have to have a strong foundation not just us as Believers but the church so many churches right now are Falling Away where's their Foundation they don't want to talk about sin they don't want to talk about repentance I want to talk about those things because then I can talk about how great the savior is he's the one that saved me from that he's that great a wise Builder recognizes the importance of community you cannot do it alone friends the enemy will always tries to will try to isolate you there's time s where you might be called out for 40 days and 40 nights out into the desert and that will happen but ultimately we have to have Community we have to be a church if we're going to reach the community it's us doing it together if I'm weak Tim's weak if he's weak I'm weak we are one body that's what it says in the Bible so should we not be encouraging each other and lifting each other up and also holding each other accountable they surround themselves with fellow Believers which provides support encouragement and accountability in Journey of wisdom and hear this friends and wisdom flourishes in A Heart That Remains teachable Pride will keep you away from that the Scottish Minister Robert Murray mcshain said this I am glad you have made Christ your one thing many painfully toil in seeking many things and their many things are nothing compared set yourself apart for Christ alone you know a lot of times I'm always thinking I'm going to when if I'm preach I'm GNA it's going to be on theology or John bunan or I mean I love theology I love I read tons of old books and every time I go to write a sermon I can't help but I got to preach about Christ I don't want one sermon I ever preach to not have his name in it I can sit in my office all day long and study all the theology I want and know all these authors and I could come up here and and seem like the smartest guy in the world and I'm not but I'm going to preach Christ and him crucified every single time number two the foolish Builder the foolish Builder hears the words of Christ but he does not put them into practice the person builds a life on the shifting Sands of worldly values desires and our Pleasures which are easy to do for all of us including Christians I'm not just speaking to unbelievers if there is some in here tonight going back now to Matthew 7:27 the ending verse says and great was its fall if we follow worldly Val values desires and Pleasures eventually the fall will be great friends and some it's a devastating fall it is the foundation of evil to smother Christ in in your hearts for if you smother Christ you smother humility and since humility is a great attribute of Christ what then pride in you becomes a great attribute of Darkness a recipe for a foolish Builder it's a stark reminder that hearing the gospel is not enough we must respond with obedience and application we need to receive it into our hearts the gospel before we can build Upon A firm foundation you're not going to build on anything if you don't have Christ at the center of your foundation the consequences of neglecting Christ as corn Cornerstone will impact the very structure and stability of our lives and the church not just now friends but forever more it's into all eternity here we go into Point number three what are what are we building as Believers and as a church what are we building our lives upon as we actively apply the teachings of Christ to our daily choices and our relationships and our attitude how do we treat others in 1 Peter 2:5 Peter refers to Believers as living I love this living stones built up as a spiritual house you see we have the foundation of Christ but what who how blessed are we that we actually get to be then a part of that home that we're building up upon that foundation and let me just tell you friends if he started the foundation he needs to be there with you through the build too do not think you're going to build that entire home or that entire Ministry or everything that God has called you to do on your own do not try to do it only in your own might always be praying Holy Spirit be with me God I need your help in all things that I do we build with him he's the Chief Cornerstone friends our choices and our actions are like the bricks and the mortar used to build upon the foundation so let us strive to build with hope and with purpose knowing that our efforts are not in vain when they align to the Align with the purposes of God I'm going to say this because I love the church and what is the key purpose that God not only a key purpose but one of the most key purposes that he has for us is the church it's the bride how can we love the Savior but not love the bride even in its flaws even though it's not perfect he's the husband of it it's Christ the Savior I love what brother Mark was saying earlier where he like well so many people leave church because this P if it's a false church and they're preing preaching a false gospel yes leave there but if they're preaching the truth and they're preaching the Bible and then someone might hurt your feelings or something like that might happen it's because guess what the church has some Brokenness because we're in it but the master of that church there there's only perfection in him so every time there might be some hurt look to Christ and know that love the church friends because if we can love the church and we can love the people within there what then can we do as a so many churches are just so stagnant where it's like well nobody's growing within the church nobody's sanctifying each other nobody's loving each other that's crazy to me sometimes where I've been in churches where it's like nobody even really seems to love each other but yet the great commandment of love God love your neighbor and I'll go even farther love thy enemy love thy enemy love God love thy neighbor What About Love The Believers that are in the church we should be there for each other friends loving each other if somebody is hurting and they need our help help them amen and I'm going to say something here too and if we walk away from the bride which is the church you might eventually walk away from the husband who is Christ the foundation of all things good and right I've met many Christians that think they can just do it on their own worship up in the mountains all alone hey church is wherever I bring it to okay church is a believing body where we come together and we're worshiping God the Creator together like we are tonight this is the church friends and I love this Matthew 5:14 we well I'm going to say this first we the church are the light of the world and the words light of the world come from Matthew 5:14 and who said those words Christ I love that we're the light of the world so if he and and right after that in that verse it says a city what a city what sitting up on top of the hill if we went back to that image we can see that that church is sitting on the top of that Hill World War II completely bombed out everything Devastation of what is left the church because Christ remains his hope and purpose remains even in darkness we're getting so taxed by all the dark things that are around us in this world from politics to everything else that's going on and then as the church we're not operating how we need to be so what happens when it gets so dark again that who's going to build the orphanages who's going to start the good Christian Schools who's going to start the good colleges that are Christian who's going to feed the Widow who's going to help the poor it's the church friends it's us as I conclude this evening I want to ask you what is your foundation built upon and I'm also going to ask this including to all the Christians and I said this to the youth the other night who is Christ to you what does he mean to you and I am asking no matter whether you've been a Christian for a year or 50 years however long please ask yourself ask it don't just play Church friend ask the question to your heart have self-reflection who is Christ to you what does he mean if a non-believer comes up to you and says who's Jesus what do you tell him what is your foundation built upon is it world worldly things worldly values or is it on him so think about that question and as I wrap up I just want to read something real quickly and I read this other night too but this was a a journal entry from Robert marray McShan he's sitting on a deathbed next to somebody and I'm going to say when the pastor is speaking which is mcshain what do we need from Christ he asked the person says Redemption keep listening to this what are some of the particulars we need dear friend they answer a new heart and a right Spirit deliverance from our Temptations the world and the devil can Christ give you these things yes why can he do so he's the savior of Sinners listen to this do you love Christ yes why they answer because he loved me who taught you the Holy Spirit did you seek him first or did he seek you he sought me he loves me that much I am found of them that sought me not and here I am ending can we ever praise Christ enough no would you like to to sing his praise in heaven yes forever those words were being said by a eight-year-old young girl on her deathbed she was eight 8 years old those are her words yes forever he's a savior of Sinners do you love Christ yes why because he loved me eight years old and saying that I hope I can be saying that when I'm on my deathbed friends I believe a chief aim of Christianity should not solely be to empower but rather to leave one profoundly humbled with no steadfast Foundation other than Christ because we live in a time where a lot of people want to just build up each person with without Christ you are this and you are this or you are this you ain't nothing without Christ he's the foundation in the Cornerstone and I'll just finish here have you begun to build your foundation with bricks of made think about what your brick should be made of of within on this Foundation love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self-control if you claim to be a Christian but have none of these bricks built upon your home or even if the church doesn't then I believe it's time for self-reflection you have to have some of those fruits coming from the holy spirit because if not you don't have a foundation and yes I'm talking to anybody in there that's even been it's not about what your parents believe dear brothers and sisters let us be wise Builders intentionally constructing our lives on the unchanging Foundation of Christ and May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ the love of God the Father And The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us as all of us build our lives and the church upon the solid foundation of Christ and him alone amen let us pray Lord I just thank you for this this service Lord I just thank you for your grace for and love Lord I just pray that we would build our lives on your foundation Lord that Christ you would help us to build and Lord I would pray that we would go out as a church to reach those that don't know you and Lord I would pray that anybody in this room tonight if they don't know you or if they are struggling with anything Lord that they would come up and receive even prayer Lord we just love you we thank you we bless you in your holy name in your name we pray Jesus amen amen what a
