The Holy Spirit Helps Us Love God

Praise the Lord, brothers and sisters. I'll be reading Zechariah chapter nine, verse nine. Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion. Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem, Behold, your king is coming to you. He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. And this was written hundreds of years ago before Jesus rode into Jerusalem, which means Palm Sunday actually was not an accident. And God had this moment planned long before the crowd ever picked up a palm branch. And notice how the king shows up, not on a war horse, not with an army, but on a donkey. Humble and lowly, and because that's who our God is, and that's how He comes to us. And so as we celebrate Palm Sunday this morning, Remember that the same God who kept that promise is still keeping his promise to you. And he's still coming through, still showing up, and still faithful every day. So that being said, let's pray for the service. Lord God, we thank you for this morning you've given us, Lord. When we pray and we ask for your blessings on this service, God. And we thank you for what you've done for us on the cross, Lord, for dying, Lord God. For the blood that was shed, Lord. We thank you for this day you've given us. God bless the service, Lord. Bless the singing, bless the preaching, and may we hear what you want to say to us today. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Praise the Lord, brothers and sisters, for this beautiful morning that we're all able to come here today. You know, the sun is shining. It felt pretty good driving here, at least in my opinion. And I want to do our Bible reading for this morning, which is going to be in Psalms 36, page 801. It's going to be Psalms 36, page 801. I'll give you guys a little bit of time to open up to that to follow along. And for any anybody that doesn't know, there's Bible in the pews, so feel free to grab it and follow along. And it says here, an oracle within my heart concerning to transgression of the wicked, there is no fear of God before his eyes, for he flatters himself in He sets himself in a way that is not good. He does not abhor evil. Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like that great Mountains, your judgments are a great deep. O Lord, you preserve man and beast. How precious is your loving kindness, O God! Therefore, the children of men put their trust under the shadow of your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your pleasures For with you is the fountain of life, in your light we see light. Oh, continue your loving kindness to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright in heart. Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked drive me away. But the richest man is the one who has Christ. Right? Because when he's gonna stand before God, he has Jesus. But those who don't have Christ, doesn't matter what they have here, they're gonna stand before God with nothing. They're going to be in poverty. That's why let the poor man on earth, even if you're poor with nothing, but if you have Christ, you're the richest man to ever live with Amen. It says over here, I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. Proverbs 8:17, I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. It's interesting. It says that in those who seek me diligently will find me. Sometimes we're like, Lord, where are you? Where are you? You God? Where are you? But the Bible says that if you seek Him, you will find Him. And sometimes God teaches us that. in a life of a child or in a life of an adult. So we're gonna today bless their teaching and also we're going to bless our teaching this morning as well. Let's stand up and pray. In the meantime, we can open up to John 14, 11, which is page 1558, 1558. John 14, 11. The Bibles in the pews are the ones we use, even though I use my own, because I have all my notes here. Yeah. One five five eight, I believe. So Our topic is still on the Holy Spirit, even though next week we're going to have an Easter service, but we're continuing our topic this morning on the Holy Spirit. Uh there's there's this understanding that once you give your life to Christ Then that's it. It kind of stops there. But what we see in the Bible is that the Holy Spirit was actually sent to us To replace Christ on earth. So he's doing the the same work of Jesus On earth but now with us. Yes, exactly. Then it stops there. Or we could actually also add to it. Some people think once you get or accept Jesus Christ, then it's almost like you're on your own. Okay, do everything on your own. But what we're gonna talk today, there is uh another persona given to humanity. In order to follow Jesus Christ effectively, you're not on your own. And a lot of times we are on your on our own just because we don't know about it. And so that's what we that's what we're gonna talk about today. Okay. John 14 And I'll be reading from 15 and down. And I'm gonna read into a little bit of chapter 15 because there's a point that we're going to Make there as well. Okay, John 14, verse 15 and below. If you love me, this is Jesus saying. Keep my commandments, and I will pray the Father, and He will give you Another helper, that he may abide with you forever, the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you A little while longer, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me, because I live, you will live also At that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. He who has my commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him. Judas, not Iscariot, said to him, Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us and not to the world? Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. And my father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word which you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me. These things I have spoken to you a while being present with you. But the helper The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You have heard me say, To you, I am going away and coming back to you. If you love me, you would have you would rejoice because I said, I am going to the Father, for my Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass you may believe. I will no longer talk much with you. For the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in me, but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandments, so I do. Arise and let us go from here. Chapter fifteen. I am the true vine, and my father is the vine dresser Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, he takes away, and every branch that bears fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit So we're gonna stop here and we see multiple times Jesus say, if you love me, you will keep my commandments. If you love me, keep my commandments. He didn't say it once, he didn't say it twice. He said it three, four times. And over here in chapter 15 it says, every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that bears fruit he prunes. That it may bear more fruit. Notice this, it says, every branch in me. Every branch in me. So this person he was in Christ Every branch in me. But look at this that does not bear fruit, he takes away And every branch that bears fruit he prunes, which pruning hurts, but it's for the benefit that it may bear more fruit. So now we are stuck with these two questions. What does it mean to bear fruit in Christ in order to love his commandments? How can we love his commandments by bearing good fruit? By showing him that we truly love him? How can we love his commandments? And this is what we are going to go through. In Galatians, I wanted to also share, you don't have to open up. But in Galatians 5, 22 through 23, it talks about the fruits. And these are the fruits of the Spirit And over here it says, but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness. And self-control. Against such things, there is no law. So we could see that the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, have we read? He's a helper and a teacher. It says in verse 26, but the helper that the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things. And bring to your remembrance all the things that I said to you. See, he's saying that the apostles were with Jesus for three and a half years. They weren't writing things down. They weren't writing things down. But that's what Jesus is saying that, and bring to your remembrance. So the Holy Spirit will bring to them what Jesus did on earth for three and a half years, and he will also teach them how to love the commandments of Christ. And the first, I would say the commandment that Jesus gives is Matthew twenty-two through thirty-seven. Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God. with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. And over here we're we're gonna go Today we're just gonna stick with number one because um I talked to Pastor Henry and he said that we need to make an emphasis On this. But there's four loves that Jesus teaches those who love him It's love your God, one, two, love your neighbor as yourself, three, love your enemies, and four, love one another Those are the four loves that Jesus teaches us. And so today we're going to stick with love your God. Matthew 22 through 37. I don't know if Pastor Henry wants to jump in also. If you guys have any uh questions, you guys can. Well to me, uh first I want to see in your mind When the Bible stated to love your God, what does it mean? Let's talk about a practical thing or all in your mind when You will say, I love God. How does it manifest in your life? Does it manifest through the emotional or does it manifest through something you do? So let's first I want to hear in your mind when Bible stating love your God, what does it mean Okay. He duh he does for you. That's that's good. That's good. Who else wanna add something to love God? What does it mean? Because I mean we have never seen God. And it's like my wife, I can love her because, well, it's someone besides me. I have emotional love. Plus, we have a gap towards each other. It's something we do towards each other. But when I did not saw God, how can I love him? We did not heard that. Appreciate him. Appreciate, but how can we appreciate him? By reading his Bible That's one way, because reading his Bible, it's actually, I want to know what God is like. Yeah? So by reading his Bible, I start learning who he is and what he hates and what he loves There's some things God hates. How do I know that? I gotta read the Bible. When someone said appreciate him I give thanks to God. Yeah? I acknowledge in that He's great and He's great in my life as well, so I give thanks. But what I want to actually, like Brother Alan said right here, number one actually, and Bible clearly states loving God, it's obeying his commandments. Right. There is no other way because if you actually say like this, I mean let's say a person in your life, let's say a wife or a husband, yeah? And you're gonna tell your wife, I love you, but then you go and you hang in with the other people, like let's say with if you're a husband with other wives and you do something that is not right, then your wife gonna go, you know, you're just saying you love me, but looks like you're by what you do, you're showing that you don't love me. Isn't it that's what we do a lot of times to God? We can say, God, we love you, we love you. But the only way we can show to God that we love Him is by doing things that He loves. Doing things that strengthen our relationship, it's very practical. There is nothing has to be mysterious about it. And what we're going to talk about today, some of those things, it's how can we love God? And if we do some of the things that actually break our relationship, We gotta know that's not a love. That's a love of this world and we gotta do something about it. Yes, and uh look while uh Dan is gonna go give the mic to to Greg, and that's why friends, we need to to ask the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is here to help us love God. He's here to help us to teach us How to love him and to give us strength to love him. A lot of people they don't utilize the power of the Spirit that God gave to each believer. We kind of gave our life and then we tried to live on our own and try to love God on our own. But the Holy Spirit is there to help us to love God. And if we see that we are weak, we're like. Holy Spirit, please help me love God with all my heart, soul, and mind. Go ahead. Okay, so I work at the Goodwill, and there's this woman there that Well, you know, she's a really attractive lady. She she does her she she goes out of her way to to do all her work and all that and she's really nice and kind to me Okay, now I see myself as this as a as an older man and she's right up there, but I can't have the thoughts of lust for that woman, which I don't have, because that's one thing that God doesn't appreciate when you're running into your head About what you want to do with this woman. You just want to just be her friend. We want to be able to just talk with her. you know, like have a roommate and and and nothing not be involved 'cause having a having a warped mind will get you away from God thinking about lust and sexual activities Yeah but uh uh yes that's right and what uh already uh Pastor Team said, but sometimes well if we try on our own Because we have a sinful nature, those things start creeping into our into our minds So, but let's say if you have that lady or that woman working with you. And actually, and you would feel when the last comes into your heart, well, Jesus Christ is beside you. He's all the sudden walking with you and all that stuff. How you would behave? So now the Holy Spirit is given to us. Bible clearly states that he's taking a place of Jesus Christ in our lives. And why Jesus Christ said it's better that I would go away So that God the Father can send the Holy Spirit because Jesus Christ, when he was walking on this earth, he can only be with some group of people. He cannot be everywhere at the same time. But he's saying the Holy Spirit, he can be everywhere at the same time. And now, Greg, when you are there working, Holy Spirit is a person, he is actually, he is there, he sees everything. And but he's not there to convince to convict you only. He's there to help you. He's there to help you to overcome your weaknesses. And the thing is, we gotta start asking him, we gotta start having a relationship Because he's a helper, yeah? He came to help you. He came to help you. The only time he can help you, it's when you start asking him. He will not do forcefully. And we gotta understand that since he besides us, we gotta use it. We're like, Holy Spirit, I'm I think I'm actually falling into some kind of temptation. What should I do in this situation? And we should start listening in our hearts what he's gonna tell us. Well Don't don't uh at this time when you come in the morning, don't always maybe start looking for her. Do your job. or treat as your sister in Christ, someone that actually uh can be attractive but like a sister in Christ, then that's it, that's the only relationship. All of a sudden he starts teaching us and start helping us. So we're not feeling like we're on our own fighting this battle. So I so what I do is I do pray for a Christian companion. And maybe he's showing me that's good. Something that I don't see. Yeah. Sometimes we can have relationship with those attractive people as uh as uh um sister and brothers in Christ. And uh yeah. Yeah. And over here, which um you know like uh studying this uh topic, at least for myself, I'm learning so much because I'm like wow okay okay let's let's start living life finally but um when we read you shall love the lord your god which Which Henry I didn't even know, but the love here that Jesus refers to is is agape, which is unconditional love. meaning that we don't love God because we expect him to uh uh give us a a car or we don't love him because we expect him to give us money. How uh how we hear uh many Preachers will say, if you give your life to God, He will bless you. He'll give you this and that And so people like, oh, he will, so they love him based on a condition. Um or or something else, but unconditional love is how God loved us. We we brought nothing to God. Like only sins. We are worthy of judgment, yet he loved us. And over here, Jesus uses that same love. It's not an emotional love in a sense, it's in it's an action love. And how Pastor Henry, he already laid it out where it's when we follow his commandments. That's why Jesus mentions not twice, not twice. Uh not once, not twice, but many times. If you love me, keep my commandments. If you love me, follow my commandments. It's an action love. And sometimes we are too weak. We are too weak. That's why we're like, Lord, help me. Love you, help me, teach me. That's what the Holy Spirit is here for. To teach and to help us to love our God. And over here, the Lord your God. It's actually God in his fullness, in his deity, in his trinity. We are to love him. And when it talks about the Lord your God, it talks about but in his fullness. And I I do also want to add uh more to the agapilav, uh unconditional. Yeah it's without condition. But it's also like if you take a Greek word and you see the Lava Agapi, it says to love in a social and moral sense. Well, there's certain obligations we have in our life. Yeah? When a neighbor is actually hurt, doesn't matter how I feel about this neighbor. Doesn't matter if I have emotional attraction to him. Maybe I don't like him actually. He maybe he has this weird bad personality that we don't uh click together. But my social and moral obligation is to help him So Agapit stating, it doesn't matter how you feel about other people, you help them out. Same thing towards God. There is a situation, there is a situation when we don't have this emotional connection yet, because this is something that goes more. But God would tell us. If you love me, you obey my commandments. No matter how you feel emotionally. You know this is wrong, you don't do it. But then when we start loving God by the Agape love, we also start creating a love of filial. You know, when Jesus Christ was asking to Piero, first he goes, Piero, do you agape me? Do you love me unconditionally? He goes, Yes, I do. He goes, well then you should actually uh watch over my flag. So do the things. But then the next time he goes to him, if we read that passage, Peter, do you feel me? Oh, that's a different. In our translation, it's again just love. But if we read in a Greek, now do you love me as a friend? And Jesus. And Peter goes, Jesus, you know everything. Because Peter also loved him as a friend. So when we start first loving God by agape, just following his commandments. then we start seeing who he is in our life and we start creating also emotional love towards him as well. So that's where first, but first it's gonna start by obeying his commandments. But don't think it's just obeying, obeying, and I don't know him personally. And all the sudden when we obeying his commandments our love start growing into something more. But it's gotta be starting from this just doing the things God actually requiring. And then it's gonna grow more and more. Yeah, and this this agape love is a love to choose. So it's a choice that that we choose to make, being jolly or sad, we choose to still love him. being on the high of things in life or if he uh brings us all the way to Job's situation to the lowest of love, we still choose to love him. It's Like in how Pastor Henry said, then it will uh the Holy Spirit will make it even more. And over here, uh the second thing, it's uh devotion and commitment. It's um it's a love of commitment. Lord, I gave my life to you. I love you. I'm gonna commit myself. To following and obeying you. It's a commitment we make. Um, and over here I put a commitment to grow our relationship with Christ. We are committed, not like, okay, uh I give my life to you, and then you forget about that whole relationship and you're just living uh like your past life no it's uh committed okay i gave my life to you now i'm going to work towards holy spirit help me to work towards growing in christ Teach me how to. Yeah. And and that's where uh as as it's been already brought. Now if we think I gotta love God by obeying his commandments and all of a sudden I'm on my own. And sometimes I have no strength. But let's read what already been read. It's John 14 26. I'm gonna use the very Easy translation, it's a contemporary English version, but it states very precisely. But the Holy Spirit will come and help you. Because the Father will send the Spirit to take my place. The Spirit will teach you everything and will remind you of what I said while I was with you. Very clearly, yeah? The Holy Spirit will come in my place. It's like if Jesus Christ would be with you. And then, because Holy Spirit does not teach anything on his own, it's the Son have heard from the Father he was teaching. Now the Holy Spirit comes and reminds you. You're like, oh well, I forgot. What can I do this or not? You can actually say, Holy Spirit, remind me. And He will remind you of that word that was what Christ was teaching while He was working. Maybe you don't have your Bible with you at the time, and you're like, well I don't know, but as a Christian, can I do this? It says that Holy Spirit will remind you. Then you say, Holy Spirit Can I do this? God, can I do this? And even you say, God, can I do this? Holy Spirit will remind you because you're asking questions. And and that's how he went. Or you read something and you forgot, and Holy Spirit will remind you of those things. That's what Holy Spirit came to help you. And as we talked today about how to love God properly. properly and not only how but to love God properly. Not only how because how it's a knowledge, but he gives you strength to love him properly. Yeah. And the the other point is to prioritize above all That's I think I need to be reminded of that myself all the time Because sometimes you want to do things on your own, but the the Bible teaches us that whatever we do, we always have to say If it's your will, if it's God's will, I will do this or that. I will go there or that. So sometimes we're Looking for a job. I'm gonna say uh practical things, looking for a job. We're trying, we're trying, we can't find a job, right? This is where you're like, Lord, please help me find a job. You're putting you're putting him in your life. Just that simple act, you're already acknowledging that he can help you. So you're turning to him. Not to somebody else. Lord, please help me. Lord, you see my relationship with my spouse or my friends or my family is not good. Please help me. When we start calling upon him, he's like, okay, I'm gonna start I'm going to start helping. I'm going to start teaching you what you should do to repair those relationships with your spouse, with your friend, with whoever. Planning a trip even. Lord, if it's your will, I'm gonna go there or there If it's God's will. You're putting him like, Lord, if if this is your will, if this is if this trip will be good for me. It will happen. Give me a second, Greg. Move into a different city, state, or country. Seek the will of God. Um I just want to share this little story, but my my parents, we we moved to California and we had a big family. But the place where we were at, it was a little bit dangerous. And my dad started calling out to God, Lord, uh, you see the situation. Like where should we go? And God literally opens up to him Idaho. And he thought it was Iowa. So he goes on the map and or Like or he goes on the map and he sees Iowa. He's like, Iowa. And then God again reveals to him Idaho. And we've been here for 30-something years. But but you see he called on to God, Lord you see my situation. He didn't make that decision on his own. Okay, honey, pack the kids, we're going to Florida, which wouldn't be bad. Right? Which wouldn't be bad, right? I I love the beach. But God says no, it would be bad for you. That's why I'm opening up Idaho. And and we love it here. We love Idaho. See, seeking the Lord, prioritizing him in your life, giving him attention, seeking his help, seeking his guidance. And God will open it up to you. We just have a few minutes left. Greg wanted to mention something and then Pastor Henry, if I'm putting my. I ask you to help you. Mike. Um Mike Ruben microphone. Ruben, Mike When I do my prayers, I ask him for to help me with my wants and needs. Is that okay? Of course. Of course. Forget we always we've given thanks to God. Don't forget to when we ask A God of something, first we gotta give thanks to him for who he is. And then we bring our needs. So that works much better. First give thanks to God, praise Him, and then bring your needs. And you'll see your prayer will be actually answered much better. The reason why it's important is not because God just One, thanks, thanks. It's because that creates a relationship between you and him, and you start actually knowing God personally, and that's when you start asking. you're asking with faith and then he gives you okay well our topic has come to its end we will continue in two weeks to uh break down where it says to love your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Our service has come to the end, and before we pray, do our last prayer, we have a few announcements. Like already mentioned, we have Easter service tomorrow, uh tomorrow, uh next Sunday. So invite your friends. It's gonna be a little bit different. It's not going to be the same layout, so if it's a little bit different, don't be shocked. I'm warning you. And then after service, we'll have a communion. So those who are going to partake. We will have a communion after service. So just guard your heart, ask the Holy Spirit to to help you, to lead you, guard your heart so you can come before God and accept his blood and his sacrifice with a thankful and blessed heart. Also, this Saturday we're going to have a parkslash picnic and a barbecue. I'm going to do something special from the church. uh not burgers or hot dogs but shish kebabs. So so I invite everybody to come and uh the church will provide the meat and the salad and the drinks so I just ask you fellow friends and family and church members to bring something sweet or some fruits that will kind of uh That will help us, you know, not lose our you know shape to uh to uh to also be a part of that. So it's going to be I asked for suggestions, people suggested it, then I went and walked around and people, a majority said camels back park. Camelsback Park is nice. We're gonna put a little gazebo there. There's a place to hike, there's a place to walk, there's an ice cream shop down the road. We're gonna have some games and a lot of fun. So to the shelters, we can have a bus at your place at 11. 30. So if you guys can be ready at 1130, we'll have a bus come pick you up and then if you would be willing to come help us to set up that will be great. So that's going to be at 12 p. m. Saturday at Camelsback Park. I will post the address on the Viber chat. Those who are in it, but just know that it's gonna be at noon April 4th, Saturday at Camel's back. Also uh this Tuesday we were blessed to cook for the inner faith Sanctuary. We were blessed to cook dinner and all those people who came and um who were a part of it said, man, this is such a blessing that we could do it every week. Um but they only put us down for once a month for now, but it was a blessing. So if anybody else wants to join, like last time we had a lot of help, so we didn't need anybody extra But I know next month some of our uh friends are l are uh going to have a birthday so they won't make it, so we're gonna need two people at least. Okay, and yeah, in service uh Sundays from 9 a. m. Tuesday at 8 30 a. m. It's going to be at the Cafena Coffee Shop off of State Street. We moved it Off of State Street. There's a lot of parking, and we would love for you guys to come there at 8:30 a. m. and then Thursdays at 6 p. m. Bible study at church Does anybody have any prayer for any needs? Yes, Alan. And Christina, she she is happy that God uh blessed her with an apartment. So she's like uh telling me the whole way on the way to church how it's so awesome.
