He Is Risen: Christ's Victory Over Death
This Easter service centers on the resurrection of Christ, read straight from Scripture: the sealed tomb, the earthquake, the angel's announcement that he is risen, and the call to worship the King who conquered death. The congregation sings richly throughout, with Grace That Is Greater, Amazing Grace, and What a Lovely Name, and a recited poem retells the empty tomb. Short but full of praise, it is a celebration of the hope and new life the resurrection brings.
Matthew 27:57-66

[Music] for you. to go. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Ros starting. Christmas [Music] [Music] had also become a disciple of Jesus. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given to him. When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his new tomb, which he had honed out of the rock. And he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed. And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary sitting opposite the tomb. On the next day, which followed the day of preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, saying, "Sir, we remember while he was still alive, how the deceiver said, after 3 days, I will rise. Therefore, command that the tomb may be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say to the people, he has risen from the dead. So the last deception will be worse than the first. Pilate said to them, "You have a guard. Go your way. Make it as secure as you know how." So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard. Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. But the angel answered and said to the woman, "Do not be afraid. For I know that you seek Jesus, who was crucified, he is not here, for he is risen, as he said. Come see the place where the Lord lay and go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead." And indeed he is going before you into Galilee. There you will see him. Behold, I have told you." So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy and ran to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, "Behold, Jesus met them, saying, "Rejoice." So they came and held him by the feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. go and tell my brother to go to Galilee, and there they will see me." Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all the things that had happened. When they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, saying, "Tell them, his disciples came at night and stole him away while we slept. And if this comes to the governor's ears, we will appease him and make you secure." So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. Then the 11 disciples went away into Galilee to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. When they saw him, they worshiped him. But some doubted. And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you. And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. John 11:25:26 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he died, yet he shall live. And everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this? Romans 6:9. We know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again. Death no longer has dominion over him. Romans 10:9. Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. He is risen. Christ is risen. Our King is risen. Let's give all glory and honor to our risen King tonight. This morning, let us bow our knees. Lift your hands to heaven for he is worthy of your and my worship. Your praise and my praise, your heart and my heart. Celebrate the king who conquered death and reigns forever. Let's pray. Amen. Lord God, we thank you Lord. We thank you for this for this message, Lord God, that that is on the Bible, Lord God, that you left for us, Lord, because you are shown that you are the king. You are the conqueror, Lord God. And everybody who believes in you shall be saved, Lord God. Lord, you know people here, you know hearts here, Lord God. You know, maybe somebody here hasn't gave their heart over to you, God. Knock, knock on their hearts, soften their hearts that they may turn to you because you are our savior. May your name be praised and glorified in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Amen. And as we rise, we're going to sing the song by the name of What a Lovely Name. There's a name above all others. Wonderful to hear. We needing open cheer is the loving name of Jesus. Never more the same. What a lovely name. What a lovely name. The name of Jesus. Reaching [Music] higher than the brightest star. Sweeter than the songs they sing in heaven.
